Tasting Notes
The 2011 Vinyes Velles is a superb effort for the warm, dry growing season. The fruits here are black, with black cherry and blackberry pie overlaying a mixture of spices, garrique, and wet minerals. There is much raw power here, yet it is contradictorily elegant and quite fresh considering the ripeness of the vintage. It ends with a tantalizing mixture of licorice and plum sauce. The wine is approaching full maturity, and the complexity is wonderful here, even more so when considering its price point.

About The Wine
Priorat is Spain's answer to Chateauneuf du Pape. These Grenache based are created in some of the most challenging topographies, and the yield is the lowest I have ever heard of (these vines make only 25% of the wine that top Bordeaux Chateau make). The result is incredibly concentrated wines that are full of both flavor and freshness. The wines have the ability to age magnificently, and many earn top scores, making this region one of the top places for ultra-luxe wines in Spain. The grapes for this wine come from vines that are over 100 years old!
