After tasting with Co-Proprietor Jnani Matson, this wine commanded our full attention. A big, bold, broody Napa that isn't for the faint of heart, this wine is truly a great growth of Napa.
About the Wine

Cooperage: 22 Months French Oak, Taransaud and Darnajou

Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III - This 300-acre parcel first purchased by Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour in 1928 and called Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch #3, was the home to BV’s George de Latour Private Reserve made by the renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. These wines achieved wide acclaim beginning in the 1940’s and established BV’s pre-eminence in the making of fine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Boich Family is proud to continue the legacy of crafting world class wines from this esteemed site.

Rutherford AVA – One of Napa Valley’s warmer AVAs, Rutherford is home to some of the most prominent wineries and vineyards. Lying low on the valley floor, this region is composed of well-drained gravel, loam and sand, all of which contribute to the area’s distinguished “Rutherford dust” terroir. In the words of André Tchelistcheff,
“it takes Rutherford dust to grow great Cabernet,” and indeed, Rutherford Cabernets show great elegance, full- bodied flavor and dusty tannins.

Vintage Notes – An unseasonably warm start to 2015 brought early bud break and bloom for Napa Valley. Vines began to show fatigue as they entered their fourth year of drought, resulting in lower crop yields than years prior. While a cold snap led to poor fruit set, properly ripened fruit proved to be of tremendous quality. Unexpected heat meant another early harvest for the valley, one of the earliest on record. 2015 Cabernets show great balance in tannin and are deep and decadent in color.

Wine Maker Notes - A warm and broad nose full of strawberry jam, dried cherries and cranberry. With lesser notes of plum tart and vanilla bean. A luxurious and textured palate of red and black fruits is supported by firm yet deliciously ripe tannin. A tasting experience that is saturated with classic GIII black cherry components and rich mouth feel characteristic of the particularly well drained soils in this part of the vineyard. A true valley floor gem.
