Purity, elegance, length and complexity are what you'll find here. Give it a few years for the tannins to soften and allow things to come together and this should be an even better wine. The wine was made blending 64% Grenache and 28% Syrah with 8% Mourvedre. Tasted 2018.

A blend of 64% Grenache, 28% Syrah and 8% Mourvèdre, it’s a rich, densely textured wine with a lingering finish marked by Bourbon and coffee notes. Appealing already for its flash, it should gain elegance from 2021 and improve through 2040.

A great vintage for this cuvée (and the region as a whole), the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Val de Dieu is 64% Grenache, 28% Syrah, and the balance Mourvèdre, all brought up in demi-muids. Fabulous notes of garrigue, new saddle leather, graphite, and assorted sweet red (and some black) fruits give way to a full-bodied, ripe, powerful wine that has remarkable elegance and purity. It's already approachable yet will unquestionably benefit from short-term cellaring and shine for a decade or more.

Full-bodied and plush, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Val de Dieu is a blend of 64% Grenache, 28% Syrah and 8% Mourvèdre. Brought up exclusively in demi-muids, it does show some toasty accents, but it delivers a lush mouthful of ripe raspberries and vanilla that glides to a lingering, slightly charred finish.
About The Wine
The Val de Dieu, a small valley that gave its name to the estate, represents the core of this cuvée resulting from the blending of the 3 main grape varieties of the estate.
Grape variety: 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre.
Terroir: This cuvée is an assemblage of our most beautiful plots of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre on river stones and red sandstone from the Comtat Venaissin.
Harvest: After waiting for the optimum ripeness, the grapes were harvested manually on September 25th,30th and October 1st 2016.
Vinification: The grapes are 100% destemmed and crushed and then transfered in a concrete tank. The temperature is maintained at around 25 ° C. during the alcoholic fermentation. The maceration lasted about 30 days during which, pump-over and rack and return are made daily according to the tastings of our oenologist Philippe CAMBIE.
Aging: Syrahs and Mourvèdres are aged for 18 months in new oak barrels, Grenache in used half-muids (600l).
Tasting: A dark dress with purple reflections. A complex nose with notes of crème de cassis, grilled spices and incense. A powerful mouth with silky tannins, all in balance. Potential of aging: 20 years and over.
Food and wine pairing: Serve at 16 ° C, on a Camargue bull stew, or a lamb.
