Lots of sweet tobacco, chocolate, and earth as well as plenty of dark fruits emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations. This stunning 2018 is full-bodied, concentrated, and light on its feet, with perfect symmetry and balance. Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blended from four different vineyards in St. Helena and Rutherford, aged in 52% new French oak, this powerful yet elegant Napa Valley Cabernet already offers pleasure, yet my money is on it evolving for over two decades.
97 Points Robert Parker
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon coming from four different vineyards in St. Helena and Rutherford, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations comes wafting out of the glass with the most gorgeous perfume of kirsch, blackcurrant cordial, blackberry preserves and spice cake, followed by notes of potpourri, oolong tea and unsmoked cigars. The full-bodied, decadently fruited palate delivers loads of savory accents among the juicy black and red fruit layers, supported by velvety tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and fragrant.
About The Wine
The grapes for Generations Cabernet Sauvignon are grown in some of the best vineyards and appellations in the Napa Valley. The majority come from two vineyards on the west side of St. Helena known for sandy soils that produce berries with sweet, ripe tannins. The remaining grapes were sourced from a meticulously farmed knoll-top vineyard at the corner of Oakville Cross Road and Silverado Trail. By blending grapes from the St. Helena and Oakville appellations, we are able to make a wine that truly represents the best of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and honors our five generation history of making wine in the Napa Valley.
Grapes were fermented on the skins for 30-38 days to lend complexity and depth to the wine before being racked to new, tight-grained, medium and medium plus toast French oak barrels for 18-20 months of aging. Only our best barrels from forests in Nevers, Allier and the Center of France were selected for this blend of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
2018 was a near picture-perfect growing season that began in late February followed by a mild Spring yielding uniform grape clusters. Temperatures remained moderate to cool throughout the season with 2018 being considered one of the coolest vintages of the past decade. The cooler temperatures allowed for a longer hangtime resulting in an even and temperate harvest.
This limited production wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and the fruit was hand-harvested between October 11-23. Grapes were fermented on the skins and underwent extended maceration for an average of 47 days to lend complexity and depth to the wine before being racked to new, tight-grained, medium and medium-plus toast French oak barrels for 19 months of aging. Only our best barrels from Taransaud, Baron, Demptos and Ermitage were selected for this wine.
